Choir trip to new york

Our school choir trip to New York City has been a fantastic adventure, feeling the great energy of New York City, and our itinerary has been packed with wonderful activities.

The first day, we were dazzled by the magic of “Wicked,” a well-known Broadway masterpiece. The musical’s breathtaking sets and fantastic performances explained the untold story of The Wizard of Oz, giving us a new perspective on the classic tale. Most importantly, the music in Wicked, which is my favorite part of every musical, was stunning enough to make all of the audiences stand up. “Defying Gravity,” the most famous song in the whole musical, was one of the songs our choir sang this trip, which made me much more touched by that song.

Among the highlights was attending the Broadway musical “Kimberly Akimbo.” The story, about the life of a teenager with a rare genetic disorder, left us all touched and inspired. The performance was incredible, though it was played in a theater way smaller than the one where Wicked was played. We also had a talk-back session with the cast after the show, which allowed us to understand how Broadway actors resonate with their characters and even how they worked to be musical actors.

Our itinerary continued, and we stopped at an opera house to see Puccini’s “Turandot.” which was an experience that I will never forget. The opera was a screamer opera that really brought out the voices of the opera singer. The main tenor was a Korean, which made me happy to see him at the grand opera hall, singing the main role. It was inspiring to witness the art form at such a world-class level at a grand hall. I had goosebumps when he sang “Nessun Dorma”, in Act 3. The piece is well-known among classical music lovers, and I heard that song multiple times through the speaker of my laptop. Listening to it one more time with the professional tenor in front of my face and the entire pit orchestra supporting the singer made it way more beautiful.

One of the most memorable moments of the trip was our performance at a senior club. To be ready to be inspired by the professionals, it was our turn to take the stage. We performed our choir song with joy and enthusiasm to make the seniors happy and joyful. The smiley faces of the seniors made us extremely proud of ourselves, knowing that we’d shown our love for choir and the power of music to connect people across different backgrounds and generations.
